Power to teachers - I thought that the love for teachers is on decline..no way.
My mother (Muthu's teacher) visited the school in Amburni, near Tirunelveli, where she taught prior to DTEA and marriage, from 1960 to 1966.52 years ago. This person in video is Aiyiram Konaar, who my mother taught as a kid. He is a grand dad, rich and all, herding goats and settled in village.
This is what he did, when he recognized her. He is meeting her after 55 years....
He lost his voice and touched her feet right there in the mud, removing slippers and all. "How she taught us"..he said (my mom was about 20 yrs old then, and walked to 4 Kms each day to Sivagami Nellai school )"."never angry, never discriminatory..the Sun may rise in West but her timings cannot falter" he added.
He kept saying "acchi" beloved teacher, and lowers the double fold of veshti/ dhoti.
And that she would go to "Cheri"(where all lower caste people lived, and teachers would not go), round up the kids, threaten their parents/ poor peasent a if their kids did not come. Her only job was to get them educated. All the while, the goats kept the music on, in this desolated, dry place.
He told of another rich peasent student, who was thrashed in second class for smoking beedi. That person's wife for 40 years, who came to meet her, happily reported he never touched it again...
